Magdalena Leads the Finals

Skiing is a family affair for Magdalena Jonsson and husband Eric Andersson (high school sweethearts from Sweden), who have been chasing the skiercross dream for more than a decade. Former members of the Swedish National Team, Magda and Eric started competing in skiercross back in the grassroots days when Uncle E was hosting the Lord of the Boards.
Since then both have earned Winter X Games medals, and at age 38, Magda is still one of the top women competitors on the planet. That is pretty impressive considering she races without an ACL in one of her knees and gave birth to two children (Jacob and Ellen) in the midst of her career. Jacob and Ellen, who travel with their parents to races, are fixtures on the skiercross scene.
Winning the 2008 year-end Jeep King of the Mountain title (after finishing third in all three-stops) was yet another accolade for this powerhouse mom. The funny part is, she can’t even go out to celebrate. Magda, who is an elementary school teacher in Sweden, is expected back in the classroom on Monday. |
